Onyi Egbochue

Onyi is a graduate from Pratt Institute with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and dual minored in Sustainable Studies and Social Praxis/ Social Justice. Inspired by architecture that starts with civic engagement, they are interested in the preservation of the environment, culture, and community through the means of sustainable architecture, material research, and community-based work. During their thesis year at Pratt, Onyi focused on the intersectionality of food and land sovereignty and how might designing through an Afro- and Indigenous futurist framework can lead humankind to a restorative and inclusive future. They strongly believe architecture gives humankind the tools to materialize, ground, and enact these new futures, and creates a form of infrastructure that supports a new vision of a racially and environmentally just world. In their free time, Onyi enjoys studying different languages, playing musical instruments, and indoor gardening.
