Design for Future Cities

Design for Future Cities

Future cities is a concept that envisions urban landscapes in years to come.

It showcases synergies among design ideas, tech innovations, and community engagement, an outcome that engenders, develops and sustains environmentally-resilient cities. This class will introduce you to the concept of urbaneers: multi-disciplinary students and professionals who work to fulfill the promise inherent in the phrase “future cities,” by learning about and working with both the fundamentals and new paradigms of urban design. You’ll learn about the history of the field and new practices (such as working with biomaterials); meet with design visionaries & entrepreneurs; visit local sites of interest; and envision, model and write about your own version of a future city. You’ll engage with questions about aesthetics, use of new biomaterials, and thinking and making within  interdisciplinary modes. Working at the nexus of infrastructure, landscape, habitat, advocacy, and sustainability, you’ll posit boldly creative and forward-thinking proposals while learning about study and career pathways in urban design for future cities.
